Empirical correlation of the modified wheel tracker (MWT) and the dynamic creep test for evaluating the permanent deformation of hot mix asphalt (HMA)

The wheel tracking test (WTT) has been extensively used for laboratory characterization of permanent deformation hot mix asphalt (HMA). However, the fully-confined setup device is unable to capture tertiary zone where shear takes place. This makes resistance characteristics HMA difficult analyze. Hence, a modified tracker (MWT), with unconfined lateral sides along direction was utilized in this study, which can flow (referred as number (FN)). dynamic creep test, yields FN, common ability characterize considering behavior. study investigated relationship MWT and utilizing microstrain data from respective tests. A novel parameter, FN-Index explored. parameters derived were well correlated test. showed promising repeatability FNs.
